Linkin Park- What I've Done

The whole video is to help impose the image that we are destroying the world with our ideas and ways of life, the whole video is talking about past, present and future and whats going to happen if we carry on the way we are. The last part of the video, however shows signs of redemption as they start to enforce the idea that if we change now we can provide a better life for generations to come.

Conventions used in this video are:

• The music video has natural lighting throughout, this is a very common feature as it shows that they aren't made to look brilliant for their videos which is what the rock genre is all about. The audience want to know that the band are actually talented.
• Another convention that is used is the smart casual clothing. This type of clothing is now associated with people who write their own music and so it is very important they wear this to suggest they are writing their own material.
• Fast cutting rate helps to make the video entertaining, this is always a common feature of a rock video as people will be drawn into a video that doesn't dwell on one image to long. 

Conventions that aren't used:

• Cartoons are usually associated with rock/metal music, in this video it is not used suggesting they have taken a more realistic approach.
• Low lighting isn't used in the video, this is usually used in most rock videos as it suggests a dark past which is what the audience usually like. This video doesnt have that maybe because it is trying to portray a serious message to everyone.

Image

They are wearing smart casual clothing which usually gives us the impression that they are down to earth and normal. This makes us tune into what they are saying and we begin to take in the message they are trying to get across to us. While they are presented as normal the undertone of the song seems to be telling us to change our ways and attitudes towards the way we treat the world. In a way the band are also presented as preachers as they are delivering a message on stage, this helps us to realise again, that they are delivering an important message.

Mise-en-scene

• Instruments- helps us to realise that they are talented as they can all play an instrument and sing a tune. It makes us like the band as we know that they aren't fake in anyway and are true to the music genre they are in.
• sunglasses- shows that the light they are using is natural again suggesting are for real and everything they do is true to the genre. Also suggests they want to hide themselves from what they've done in their life.
• Camera equipment- This allows the audience to be involved in the making of the video as we are seeing it being produced throughout the clip.

Representation

Throughout the clip the band are presented as very strong and well spoken men trying to get us to listen to their message as well as change the way we live our lives. Personally I feel they are presenting the,selves in a way that makes us look up to them.

Sound

The sound seems to be amplified during the chorus like most music. There also seems to be sound effects used in the background to enhance the effect of the music.
