Camera and Editing

Camera:
Close-up- They tend to be used as a master shot in a music video, most likely because they focus on the lead singer. We tend to have a variety of close ups to help show the audience every angle of the singer, this is commonly used in rock videos to show off the fact that they are actually singing. The microphone is nearly always shown in a rock video as it actually shows that they are legitimate artists. They are also used frequently in pop videos as they can help show emphasis on emotions, for example Lady Gaga- Bad Romance a large amount of close-ups of her crying.

Mid-Shots/ Long shots- Theses shots are used either to show images of the band playing in sync with the music. This is used to show again that the band are able to play their own instruments and are legitimate artists. They are also used as Establishing shots as they are usually used for a longer period of time compared to other shots.

Master Shot- Is in nearly all music videos, it is a shot that the film  will keep coming back to. The master shot is usually at the center of everything. It is usually the most frequent shot in the clip and plays a role in most rock videos as it helps show they can play their instruments and sing.

Editing:
Cross-Cutting- is used frequently throughout a music video and it helps to build up a narrative of what is happening as well as making the clip more interesting. Cross-cutting can be used to make the clip faster with out losing the narrative of the video.

Compressed time- is used in nearly all films whether it is a movie or a music video, it helps to make the footage shorter and to the point. They usually take place more frequently in more narrative based videos as it can be used to cut from the artist to the main character.

Editing on the beat- Helps to make the video look like it goes with the music that is being played. It cuts every time there is a beat played, meaning the video actually becomes a lot more interesting when this is used.
