Metal Album Cover
Front
For the album cover i designed an image which was specific to the conventions of the genre. Once the design was complete I scanned it through and used Photoshop to apply the anarchy symbol as well as the band name and album title. I finally added the parental guidance badge which finished the front off. To make the image stand out, I applied a cream background to it so any image or text would stand out, it also centered the album around the art which is a main convention of Metal album covers. The Dragon also indicates that there was Chinese influence in the production of the music. The anarchy symbol also helps us understand that the band are a protest band. The anarchy symbol and the Chinese dragon together suggests that the band are against the current government and maybe for the communist regime.
For the back I managed to find a copyright free design of a satanic circle. Satanic art is usually a key feature in most of the metal album covers, so it was one of my key objectives to incorporate one into my design. It adds the fear factor into the design which in turn is what makes a metal album unique. The bar code is also a must have on the back cover as it is on all album covers. The red on both sides also resembles blood which hints that the music can be linked to violence. The satanic symbol also indicates that there is a ritual element to the album as the symbol actually originates from a ritual.
Pop Prince
Front
For the front we used a stereotypical boy to pose against a wall, there is always a picture of the artist in on a pop prince's album cover. We also placed him to the side which hints that he is slightly bad. However the suit suggests his class and taste, however the fact hes not wearing a tie also hints at his bad side. We haven't included the album title as we wanted to challenge that convention, overall i think it was successful as it helps suggest he doesn't go with the flow and is different to all the rest. Another convention we used on this album cover is high key lighting, this is used nearly in all pop prince albums. Overall we made this particular pop prince look as if he was an older one, mainly by using contradicting good and bad features.
